New House Tour: Finley's Room

What better day to share Finley's Star Wars room than May 4th? If you aren't a Star Wars nerd, today is Star Wars day: May the Fourth be with you. Moving on :) Finley's room isn't much different than it was at our old house. We used all of the same decor but her room is laid out a little differently. To start, here's what her room looked like when we bought the house:

The room was the same color blue as painters tape. Literally. It was not going to work for us Here's what we did:
+ painted walls, trim, and closet doors
+ new light fixture
+ had carpets cleaned
+ added curtain rods and window valences

And here's what it looks like now:

Here's what I still want to do in here:
+ eventually replace the carpet
+ caulk the chair rail and trim
+ paint the door
+ new blinds

I love how bright and girly her room is. And I love that she has a much bigger closet in this house :)

New House Tour: Master Bedroom

I didn't realize how much our bedroom had changed until I looked back at the pictures from when we bought it. All of the before photos have the old owner's furniture in them. Apparently I was too excited when we got the keys and didn't take any photos of the empty room. Oops.

What we did:
+ had carpets cleaned (hired out)
+ painted walls, trim, and closet doors
+ added curtains
+ added closet organizers in both closets
+ new light fixture

And here's what it looks like now:

What I still want to do:
+ some touch up paint
+ paint bedroom door black
+ new carpet
+ black metal headboard (I think there's too much cream going on in there right now)
+ add some wall sconces or lamps on our nighstands

I love how much brighter the room is! By adding the closet organizers, not only did we get more hanging space, we were also able to get rid of our dressers, so we don't have a bunch of big furniture in the room, which makes it feel bigger. A couple of side-by-sides for comparison:

My Favorite Spot in Our Home

Today I am joining four other bloggers to share our favorite spots in our homes.  My favorite spot in our home right now is our bedroom.  It's the room we've done the most work in, and I think it's come a long way.  It used to be so dark, but now it's light, bright, and relaxing.  I love sleeping in on weekends (when I can), reading in bed, and cuddling with my two favorite boys (Kevin and Admiral) in this room.

And here are a few before and after's so you can see how far it has come.  There are still a lot of things I want to do in our bedroom, but painting the walls, painting the trim, removing part of the built in headboard, and adding curtains were HUGE improvements.

What is your favorite spot in your home?  Why?

Make sure you stop by these blogs to see what they are up to with their outdoor spaces:

One Room Challenge: The Reveal! (Master Bedroom)

These past six weeks have gone by way too quickly.  I didn't get nearly as much done during the One Room Challenge as I wanted to, but I definitely got more done than I would have if I had not participated.  The room is far from done, but I think it has come a long way.  Here's what I have crossed off my list, and what I still want to get done...hopefully finished over this winter.

- Touch up paint on walls and trim that need it.
- Caulk trim and wood paneled wall where needed.
- Purchase and hang curtains.-
- Replace drawer pulls on dressers.
- Replace handles on closet doors.
- Hang things on the wall/decorate the room.
- De-clutter and organize dressers.
- Get white cord covers for the lamp cords on the headboard.
- Paint dressers white (leave top dark wood).
- Add pop of another color to room.
Revamp closet to maximize storage.
- Add hanging mirror/jewelry storage.

And of course, here are the photos of the semi-finished room.  I've also included a few before & after photos at the end, so you can see what it looked like when I started.

And now for a few before and afters.  These first photos are the before and after from when I started the one week challenge six weeks ago.  The most noticeable change is the curtains, but if you look close, you'll notice the cord covers and new dresser hardware (and touch up paint on the window sill).

Now, for some much more dramatic before and after photos, here is what the house looked like the day we moved in, and how it looks now.

I have loved that this link up has challenged me to do things that I otherwise would have kept putting off.  It has made me determined to get all of the projects for this room done over the next few months.  I can't wait to participate again next time and hopefully get another room in my house done!  Or close to done anyway :)

Linking up again today with Calling It Home for the One Room Challenge.
