Bedroom Closet Makeover

I've wanted to do something with our closet since we moved in to our house 4.5 years ago. The one hanging bar and shelf were just not enough in that small closet (and this is the biggest closet in our house!). After reseraching DIY options and some pre-made organizers, I decided to go with this CloseMaid organizer from Home Depot. The organizer was $53 and an additional hanging bar was $10 (it comes with three hanging bars). For that price, I decided to give it a try.

So we went to Home Depot on Saturday morning and bought it. I took everything out of the closet and this is what we were left with:

Kevin took down the metal hanging bar and then ripped out the wood self. When he was done, I did some major cleaning and got to work painting the trim inside the closet. I probably should have painted the walls too, because they were pretty faded, but I had already done two coats of primer and two coats of paint on the trim, and I was over painting for the weekend.

I followed the instructions that came with the organizer and put the shelf part together myself. I had Kevin help me attach it to the wall and mount the hanging rods. We had to cut the hanging rods because our closet is so small, they wouldn't fit! But after cutting them all down slightly, it worked great.

Then I got to work putting everything back. I still have some sorting and organizing to do, but it gives us so much more hanging space! I love it. Our clothes aren't packed so tight and we each have our own side. Definitely worth the $63 it cost to get this done in one weekend.

I love it! It feels so much more organized and it's not stuffed with clothes. Such a great way to make a big difference in a small closet.

New Year Goals

To kick off 2017, I thought I'd write down my goals for the year. I'm always hoping to do the usual: be healthier, more organized, and an overall better person. But I feel like I need some tangible goals to help push me. So here are a couple:

1. Run a marathon. Whoa. Crazy talk. That's 26.2 miles. I don't think I've fully comprehended what I got myself in to. Thankfully, Kevin is doing it with me, so we can push each other. We signed up already, so that's the first step!

2. Grow this blog. I miss writing posts, interacting with readers and other bloggers, and reading other blogs. I want to be more intentional about my posts and social media presence.

3. Home improvements. That's pretty vague. I've decided that I want to go room by room in our house and "finish" the rooms. I don't think rooms will actually ever be finished because I'll want to change things all the time, but I have lists of things I want to do in each room in our house. Some lists are longer than others, but there are things I want to do in each. I'm not putting a timeline on any of this, so I don't get overwhelmed. But I already know what's first (hint: bedroom closet) and I plan to start on it this weekend!

So there you have it. My three goals for 2017. Here's to making this year great!

Did you make any goals or resolutions for the new year?
