Weekend Recap

I hope you all had a great Memorial Day weekend and took some time to remember those who paid the ultimate price for our freedom.

Kevin had a golf weekend with his friends, so Admiral and I were on our own for most of the weekend.  Friday night my dad and I headed to the casino Friday night, and as usual, I lost and he won.  Even though I lost, I still had a great time.  I took a nice nap on Saturday afternoon, because we stayed up way too late at the casino on Friday night.  After my nap, I headed to the grocery store and then made a couple of things to bring to my family's Memorial Day get together on Sunday.

Admiral took full advantage of Kevin being gone, because this is how he was sleeping when I woke up on Sunday morning:

Sunday morning I got up and mowed the front and back yard, then got ready to head to my family's party.  It rained, so we didn't get to have a bon fire, but we still had a good time.  We had tons of delicious food and it was nice to hang out and catch up.

On Monday we went to the Memorial Day parade in Muskegon with Kevin's family and then had a cook out at his Grandma's.  Admiral and I headed home after the party, while Kevin and his brother went golfing.  When I got home, I decided to plant the rest of my flowers that I hadn't done last weekend.  I'm really loving the color the flowers are adding to our yard,..now I just need them to start getting bigger and blooming!  Here's a look at some of the flowers in our back yard:

I think I'm going to get one more larger pot to add and complete it.

My peonies are SO close to opening, I can't wait!
After I was done with my flowers, I decided I was going to sit in my zero gravity chair and read for a little while.  However, there were some loud noises and Admiral was scared, so he climbed on my lap and made it impossible for me to read.  So we packed up and headed inside to start doing laundry.

Our weekend was busy, but full of family, food, and fun.  Those are the best weekends, am I right?

Baseball Wreath

For my mom's birthday in April, I made her a Detroit Tigers Baseball Wreath.  I loved the way it turned out, so I thought I'd share it here.  Now I want to make one for myself because I liked it so much.  My family are huge sports fan, especially the Detroit teams (since we live in Michigan), so I knew she would like this wreath to hang on her door for baseball season.

Kevin had a bucket of old baseballs, so I picked 11 of them and had my dad drill holes through them.

Then I took a metal hanger and used pliers to help straighten it out.  I then strung the baseballs on the wire hanger and connected the two ends, and made a loop for hanging.  The way I connected them wasn't pretty, but it didn't matter because it got covered with a bow.

I looked at Michaels, Hobby Lobby, and JoAnns for a wood Old English D that I could paint, but I no one had one.  I ended up tracing the D on to cardboard, cutting it out (very carefully), and painting it.  I would prefer to have found a wood letter, but the cardboard one looks ok. I bought some orange ribbon and made a bow that I tied to the wire hanger, and used a small piece to hang the "D."

Yep, I definitely need to make one of these for my house!

Weekending

Even though I had to work on Saturday, this was still a great weekend!

FRIDAY:  After work, I took Admiral to the dog park for a little while.  There was one little spot of mud from same rain earlier in the week...and of course, Admiral decided to lay in it!  Luckily I keep an old blanket in my car to put on the seat when we leave the park for instances just like this.  He got a quick bath when we got home and was clean again :)  Kevin went golfing after work, so after he got home we just hung out on the couch and caught up on the DVR.

SATURDAY: I had to work on Saturday, and then I met my mom and Aunt and we headed to Countryside Greenhouse to get some flowers.  We ended up spending almost over three hours in the greenhouse--it's huge!  We got tons of pretty flowers.  Luckily we decided to bring two vehicles, because we definitely needed all the room!

SUNDAY:  I did some much needed grocery shopping in the morning and then came home and started planting some of the flowers I bought on Saturday.  I still have more to do, but I love the way the flowers are adding some color to our yard.  The rest of Sunday was spent catching up laundry, reading in the sun, and doing a little cleaning.

I hope you had a great weekend!  Happy Monday :)

My Favorite Spot in Our Home

Today I am joining four other bloggers to share our favorite spots in our homes.  My favorite spot in our home right now is our bedroom.  It's the room we've done the most work in, and I think it's come a long way.  It used to be so dark, but now it's light, bright, and relaxing.  I love sleeping in on weekends (when I can), reading in bed, and cuddling with my two favorite boys (Kevin and Admiral) in this room.

And here are a few before and after's so you can see how far it has come.  There are still a lot of things I want to do in our bedroom, but painting the walls, painting the trim, removing part of the built in headboard, and adding curtains were HUGE improvements.

What is your favorite spot in your home?  Why?

Easy Sangria Recipe (& it's Delicious!)

A few weeks ago when I hosted a Pinterest party, I made sangria for the first time.  I was really happy with the way it turned out, so I thought I'd share the recipe.  I based it on this Skinny Sangria Recipe from Living Locurto, but I changed it up a little.

Ingredients:
2 bottles red Moscato wine
1/2 bottle Chardonnay wine
1 liter of Sprite Zero
1/2 cup Vodka
ice
fresh fruit (I used strawberries, pineapple, oranges, and blackberries)

Mix the red wine, white wine, sprite zero, vodka, and fruit together in a big pitcher. Let it chill for 4-6 hours.  Service over ice and enjoy!  (I actually chilled the bottles of wine, pop, and vodka in the fridge separately and then mixed them all together with the fruit about an hour before the party and it turned out great.)

It was so easy and I thought it turned out delicious!  Perfect drink for summer when you are sitting outside enjoying some sun :)

Weekend Recap

Happy Monday everyone!  We had some amazing weather this weekend in Michigan and I was glad I was able to take advantage of it.  Especially since it's supposed to rain all week.

Kevin and I spent Friday night hanging out at home, catching up on the DVR.  We had to be up early on Saturday, so we had a low key night at home.

Saturday morning we were up early and headed to Muskegon.  Kevin dropped me off at March of Dimes, where I met up with my mom and sister.  We walked close to 6 miles for the March of Dimes event.  The weather was great and it was fun to catch up with my mom and sister.

After the walk, we met up with Kevin and my Dad and took my mom out to lunch for her birthday (which was last Thursday).  We went to Brann's and enjoyed lunch with the family.  After lunch we headed home and did some yard work and then relaxed on the couch for the rest of the night.

We slept in Sunday morning and it was amazing.  The weather was gorgeous on Sunday, so took Admiral for a walk in the morning and then Kevin grilled burgers for lunch.  I spent a couple of hours sitting on the deck reading and it was great....I love being able to sit outside and read and relax.  The rest of Sunday was spent catching up on laundry and relaxing on the couch with Kevin and Admiral.

How was your weekend?
